Y- axis – Number of students ( in
thousands)
The total number of students who opted for
Mathematics in the years 2005 and 2008 together are approximately what percent
of the total number of students who opted for all three subjects in the same
years?
Solution:
Number of students who opted for Mathematics in
the year 2005 = 15000
Number of students who opted for Mathematics in
the year 2008 = 30000
Total number of students in all subjects in
2005 = 5000 + 35000 +15000
=
55000
Total number of students in all subjects in 2008
= 25000 + 30000 +30000
=
85000
Therefore required percentage = (15000+ 30000) x 100%
(
55000+85000)
= 45000 x 100 %
140000
= 32.14%.
Out of the total number of students who opted for
the given three subjects, in the year 2009, 38% were girls. How many boys opted for Mathematics in the same
year?
Solution:
Total number of students in 2009 = 20000 +
20000 + 5000
=
45000
Therefore total number of girls = 38 % of 45000
=
45000 x 38
100
=
17100
Total number
of boys = 45000 -17100
= 27900
Therefore total number of boys who opted for
Mathematics in 2009
=
27900 x 5000
45000
=
3100
What is the respective ratio between the number of
students who opted for English in the years 2006 and 2008 together and the
number of students who opted for Hindi in the same year 2005 and 2009 together?
Solution:
Number of students who opted for English in the
year 2006 = 25000
Number of students who opted for English in the
year 2008 = 30000
Therefore the total number of students who for
English in 2006 and 2008
Are 25000+ 30000 = 55000
Number of students who opted for Hindi in the
year 2005 = 5000
Number of students who opted for Hindi in the
year 2009 = 20000
Therefore the total number of students who for Hindi
in 2005 and 2009
Are 5000+ 20000 = 25000.
Therefore Required ratio = 55000 : 25000
=
11: 5
If the total number of students in the University
in the year 2007 was 4,55,030, then, the total number of students who opted for
the given three subjects were approximately what percent of the total students?
Solution:
Given that the total number of students in the
University in the year 2007 were 4,55,030.
From the graph the who opted the three subjects
are 15000+ 10000 +15000
= 40000
Therefore the required percentage = 40000 x
100 %
455030
=
8.79%
What is the total number of students who opted for
Hindi and who opted for Mathematics in the years 2006,2007 and 2009 together?
Solution:
Number of students who opted for Hindi in the
year 2006 = 5000
Number of students who opted for Hindi in the
year 2007 = 15000
Number of students who opted for Hindi in the
year 2009 = 20000
Number of students who opted for Mathematics in
the year 2006 = 35000
Number of students who opted for Mathematics in
the year 2007 = 15000
Number of students who opted for Mathematics in
the year 2009 =5000
Therefore the required total is 5000
+15000 + 20000 + 35000 +15000 +5000
=95000
